অস্ট্রিক ভাষাসমূহ

দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব এশিয়া, প্রশান্ত মহাসাগরীয় অঞ্চল এবং ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশের পূর্বাংশে প্রচলিত অনেকগুলি ভাষা অস্ট্রিক ভাষা পরিবার (Austric language family) নামের একটি অধি-পরিবারের অন্তর্ভুক্ত, এ ব্যাপারে অনেকে তত্ত্ব দিয়েছেন। এই ভাষাগুলির মধ্যে আছে তাইওয়ান, মালয় দ্বীপপুঞ্জ, প্রশান্ত মহাসাগরীয় দ্বীপপুঞ্জ, এবং মাদাগাস্কারে প্রচলিত অস্ট্রোনেশীয় ভাষাসমূহ, এবং পূর্ব ভারত, বাংলাদেশ এবং ইন্দোচীন উপদ্বীপে প্রচলিত অস্ট্রো-এশীয় ভাষাসমূহ। তবে এই দুই ভাষা পরিবারের বংশগত সম্পর্কের অণুকল্পটি বেশির ভাগ ভাষাবিজ্ঞানী সমর্থন করেন না।

জার্মান মিশনারি ভিলহেল্ম শ্মিট ১৯০৬ সালে প্রথম অস্ট্রিক অধি-পরিবারটি প্রস্তাব করেন। তিনি ভাষাগুলির মধ্যে ধ্বনিতাত্ত্বিক, রূপমূলতাত্ত্বিক এবং আভিধানিক মিলের প্রমাণ পেশ করেন। কিন্তু আভিধানিক মিলগুলি ভাষাতাত্ত্বিক সমাজে গ্রহণযোগ্য হয়নি। এ কারণে এই অণুকল্পটিও সাধারণের মাঝে গ্রহণীয় হয়নি।

তবে এর পরেও অণুকল্পটির সমর্থনে অনেকেই লিখেছেন। বর্তমানে অণুকল্পটির অবস্থা জানতে Reid 2005 পড়ুন।
