May 2017
DHHS (NIOSH) Publication Number 2017-144
CDC NIOSH Publication 2017-144 NIOSH Western States Division Fact Sheet

The Western States Division (WSD) conducts research to reduce a wide variety of occupational safety and health hazards and has three office locations in Spokane, WA, Denver, CO and Anchorage, AK. Workers in the Western states may face unique hazards, including climate extremes, long distance commutes, and working at altitude, and in remote locations. As a result, these workers consistently suffer from some of the Nation’s highest work-related fatality rates. This fact sheet provides a broad overview of the safety and health research conducted by WSD, the Center for Maritime Safety and Health Studies, and how to contact the Division.
