What a Claimant Should Know About Radiation Dose Reconstruction

January 2002
DHHS (NIOSH) Publication Number 2002-138
	2002-138 Cover

The purpose of this fact sheet is to explain dose reconstruction and its role in the compensation program. If this fact does not answer your question on dose reconstruction, please feel free to contact the Office of Compensation Analysis and Support (OCAS) at 513-841-4498 (toll-free at 1-800-35-NIOSH or 1-800-356-4674) or by e-mail at ocas@cdc.gov. Dose reconstructions are used to estimate the radiation dose to which an individual worker or group of workers have been exposed, particularly when radiation monitoring data are unavailable, incomplete, or of poor quality. NIOSH will reconstruct radiation doses by evaluation all appropriate data relevant to the energy employee's radiation exposure.
