Knowledge & Skill Requirements

The tutorials were structured so that you could start anywhere and move around as you wish. However, later modules build on earlier modules and they assume some familiarity with statistical analysis and epidemiologic concepts. Also, it is assumed you have completed the main tutorial, or have a working knowledge of Continuous NHANES, before attempting the supplemental tutorial on NHANES III.

Modules 1-4

These modules assume:

  • basic familiarity with an Internet browser and computer, and
  • no knowledge of statistical software or programming or previous experience with NHANES datasets and files.

Modules 5-9

These modules assume some knowledge of statistics and statistical software and programming, such as:

  • basic knowledge and skills in statistical analyses (e.g. ability to run frequently used descriptive and reference statistics, and correctly interpret the results), and
  • basic knowledge and skills in SUDAAN and/or SAS statistical software.

Modules 10-12

These modules assume:

  • basic knowledge of sampling, statistical and epidemiological concepts; and
  • basic knowledge and skills in SUDAAN and/or SAS statistical software.

Modules 13-17

These modules assume:

  • basic knowledge of epidemiological concepts (e.g., prevalence estimates and odds ratios);
  • basic knowledge and skills in statistical analyses (e.g., ability to run frequently used descriptive and reference statistics, and correctly interpret the results); and
  • basic knowledge and skills in SUDAAN and/or SAS statistical software.
