DCHI works to reduce people’s exposures to toxic substances in the environment.

Take samples

  • Take air, soil, or water samples in neighborhoods built near current or old chemical dump sites or other areas where toxic chemicals were/are dumped, spilled or released
  • Take biologic samples (blood, urine) from people living in the neighborhoods

Review data and report on health effects

  • Provide our expert opinion on the level of environmental exposure and the health effects that could have occurred or could be possible

Work with communities and tribes to protect health

  • Provide health education, technical advice, and support for communities and tribes to protect them from health effects caused by environmental exposure

Work with states and other agencies

  • Make recommendations to prevent, reduce, or eliminate environmental exposures
