யோகான் எலர்ட் போடே

போடே அம்பர்கில் பிறந்தார். இவர் இளமையில் கண் நோய் தாக்கவே, தன் வலது கண்ணை இழந்தார்; தொடர்ந்து கண்சிக்கல்கள் இவரை வாழ்நாள் முழுதும் வாட்டின.[1]

இளமையில் இவரது கணித்த் திறமை இவரை யோகான் பூசுச்சுக்கு அறிமுகப்படுத்தி, போடே அவரது நூலகத்தைப் பயன்படுத்த உதவியது.

இவர் 1766 ஆகத்து 5 இல் நிகழ்ந்த சூரிய ஓளிமறைப்பைப் பற்றி இவர் எழுதிய குறுங்கட்டுரையின் வெளியீட்டோடு இவரது பணி தொடங்கியது. அடுத்து இவரது வானியல் குறித்த எளிய நூலாகிய Anleitung zur Kenntniss des gestirnten Himmels (1768, 10th ed. 1844) வெளியிடப்படவே,, அதுகண்ட வெற்றியால் இவரை யோகான் ஈன்றிச் இலாம்பர்ட் பெர்லினுக்கு அழைக்க வைத்தது[2]அப்போது இவருக்கு மேம்பட்ட திட்ட்த்தினால் கணிக்கும் பணி இலாம்பர்ட்டால் தரப்பட்டது. அங்கு இவர் 1774 இல் பெயர்பெற்ற Astronomisches Jahrbuch எனும் இதழின் 51 தொகுதிகளை ஆண்டுக்கு ஒன்றாகத் தொகுத்து வெளியிட்டார்.[3]

இவர் 1786 இல் பெர்லின் வான்கானகத்தின் இயக்குநரானார். இப்பணியில் இருந்து இவர் 1825 இல் ஓய்வு பெற்றார்.[3]

இவர் 1787 முதல் 1825 வரை Astronomisches Rechen-Institut நிறுவனத்தின் இயக்குநராக இருந்தார். இவர் 1794 இல்சுவீடன் அரசு வானியல் கழகத்தின் அயல்நாட்டு உறுப்பினராகத் தேர்வானார். இவர் 1789 ஏப்பிரலில் அரசுகழகத்தின் உறுப்பினராகத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டார்.[4]

போடே தன் 79 ஆம் அகவையில் 1826 நவம்பர் 23 இல் இறந்தார்.

His works were highly effective in diffusing throughout Germany a taste for astronomy.[3]
