பெத்தேல்

பெத்தேல் என்பது விவிலியத்தோடு தொடர்புடைய ஒரு பண்டைக்கால ஊர் ஆகும். பண்டைய உகரித் மொழியில் அது "பெத்-எல்" (bt il) எனப்பட்டது. அதன் பொருள் கடவுளின் (எல்) இல்லம் (பெத்) என்பதாகும்.[1]

எபிரேய மொழியில் "பெத்தேல்" בֵּית אֵל என்றும், கிரேக்கத்தில் Βαιθηλ என்றும், இலத்தீனில் Bethel என்றும் வடிவம் பெறும்.
