பூலிய இயற்கணிதம்

கணிதத்திலும், கணித ஏரணவியலிலும், பூலிய இயற்கணிதம் (Boolean algebra) என்பது இயற்கணிதத்தின் ஒரு பிரிவாகும். இப்பிரிவில், வேறிகளின் மதிப்பு உண்மை, இன்மை என்னும் இரு நிலைகளேயாகும். இவை முறையே 1 அல்லது 0 என்று குறிக்கப்படும். இயற்கணிதத்தில் வேறிகளின் மதிப்பை எண்களைக் கொண்டு குறிப்பது போலின்றி, பூலிய இயற்கணிதத்தில், எண்கள் பயன்படுத்தப்படுவதில்லை. அதுபோன்றே கூட்டல், கழித்தல் போன்ற பிணைகளின்றி, இதில் உண்மை இன்மை ஆகிய இருநிலைகளில் ஒன்றும் ஒன்றும் சேர்ந்தால் (AND), ஒன்று அல்லது மற்றது (OR), அல்லாத (NOT), என்பவையே பிணைகளாக அமையும். எண்சார்ந்த உறவை இயற்கணிதம் விளக்குவதைப் போல, ஏரண உறவை பூலிய இயற்கணிதம் விளக்குகிறது.

பூலிய இயற்கணிதம், ஜார்ஜ் பூல் என்பவரால் தனது முதல் புத்தகமான, The Mathematical Analysis of Logic (1847) என்னும் புத்தகத்தில் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டது. பிறகு An Investigation of the Laws of Thought (1854).[1] என்பதில் இதுபற்றி இன்னும் விரிவாகக் குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.

1913 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஹென்றி செபர் என்பவர் இத்துறைக்கு பூலிய இயற்கணிதம் என்று வழங்கலாம் என்று முன்மொழிந்தார்.[2]

பூலிய இயற்கணிதமானது மின்னியல் துறை வளர்ச்சிக்கு முக்கிய காரணமாய் இருந்திருக்கிறது. அண்மைய கணிமொழிகள் அனைத்திலும் ஒரு அங்கமாக இருக்கிறது. கணக் கோட்பாடு, புள்ளியியல் துறைகளிலும் பயனுள்ளதாக இருக்கிறது.[3]
