புறக்கோள்

புறக்கோள் (extrasolar planet, அல்லது exoplanet), என்பது சூரியக் குடும்பத்திற்கு வெளியே உள்ள ஒரு கோளைக் குறிக்கும். 2010 ஜூன் 28 வரை பெறப்பட்ட தகவல்களின் படி, இதுவரை 464 புறக்கோள்கள் இருப்பது வானியலாளர்களால் உறுதி செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது[1]. இவற்றில் பெரும்பாலான புறக்கோள்களின் புகைப்படங்கள் நேரடியாகப் பெறப்படாமல், ஆரத் திசைவேகம் (radial velocity) அவதானிப்புகள் மூலம் பெறப்பட்டவையாகும்[1].

பல புறக்கோள்கள் வியாழன் கோளை ஒத்த பெரும் கோள்கள் ஆகும். சில புறக்கோள்கள் எடை குறைந்தவையாகும். இவை பூமியை விட சில மடங்கு அதிக நிறை உடையவை[2][3] பல விண்மீன்கள் கோள்களைக் கொண்டுள்ளதென இப்போது உறுதிப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. கிட்டத்தட்ட 10 விழுக்காடு விண்மீன்கள் சூரியனை ஒத்தவை ஆகும்[4].
