இந்தியாவில் படிப்பறிவு (Literacy in India) சமூகப் பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சிக்கு ஓர் முக்கிய குறிகாட்டியாக உள்ளது.[1] 1947ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆங்கிலேயர்களிடம் இருந்து இந்தியா விடுதலை பெற்றபோது 12% ஆக இருந்த இந்தியப் படிப்பறிவு வீதம் 2011ஆம் ஆண்டில் 74.04%ஆக வளர்ச்சி யடைந்துள்ளது.[2][3] இவ்வளர்ச்சி ஆறு மடங்கு உயர்வினைக் காட்டிலும் கூடுதலாக இருந்தபோதும் உலகளவில் விளங்குகின்ற சராசரி 84%க்குக் குறைவானது.[4] இருப்பினும் உலகிலேயே எந்த நாட்டையும் விட மிகக் படிப்பறிவு உள்ளவர்கள் எண்ணிக்கை அதிகம் உள்ள நாடாக விளங்குகிறது.[5] மத்திய, மாநில அரசுகளின் பல திட்டங்களுக்குப் பின்னரும் இந்தியாவின் படிப்பறிவு மெதுவாகவே வளர்ந்துள்ளது.[6] 1990ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆய்வு ஒன்று அவ்வருட வளர்ச்சி வீதத்தில் இந்தியாவில் அனைவரும் படிப்பறிவு பெற்றவர்களாக விளங்க 2060 ஆண்டு ஆகும் என மதிப்பிட்டுள்ளது.[7] ஆயினும் 2011 மக்கள்தொகை கணக்கெடுப்பில், 2001-2011 பத்தாண்டுகளில் 9.2% வீதத்தில் வளர்ந்துள்ளது,முந்தைய பத்தாண்டுகளின் வளர்ச்சி வீதங்களை விடக் குறைவாக இருப்பது கவலை அளிப்பதாக உள்ளது.
