இரண்டாம் உலகப் போரின் போது சப்பான் படை வீரர்களுடைய காம இச்சைகளைத் தீர்ப்பதற்காக முதலில் விலைமாதுகள் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டனர். இராணுவ வீரர்களின் எண்ணிக்கை அதிகமாக இருந்ததால் விலைமாதுகள் அவர்களின் தேவைக்கேற்ற அளவு இல்லை. இதனால் ஜப்பான் நாட்டு இராணுவ வீரர்களின் காம இச்சையைத் தீர்ப்பதற்காக கொரியா, தைவான், சீனா, பிலிப்பைன்ஸ் நாட்டுப் பெண்கள் கடத்தப்பட்டு அவர்களை தங்கள் ஆசைக்குப் பயன்படுத்திக் கொண்டனர். இப்படி இராணுவ வீரகளின் காம இச்சைகளைத் தீர்க்கப் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்ட பெண்கள் ஆறுதலளிக்கும் பெண்கள் (Comfort Women) என குறிப்பிடப்பட்டனர்.
