ഹിന്ദി

ഇന്ത്യയിൽ കേന്ദ്രസർക്കാറിന്റെയും ഉത്തര-മദ്ധ്യ ഭാരതത്തിലെ പല സംസ്ഥാനസർക്കാറുകളുടെയും ഔദ്യോഗികഭാഷയാണ് ഹിന്ദി[4]. പൊതുവെ പറയപ്പെടുന്നു എങ്കിലും ഹിന്ദി ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ദേശീയ ഭാഷയല്ല. ഇന്ത്യൻ ഭരണഘടന ഒരു ഭാഷയ്ക്കും ദേശീയഭാഷ പദവി കല്പിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. [5][6]മദ്ധ്യഭാരതത്തിൽ എമ്പാടുമായി ചെറിയ വ്യതിയാനങ്ങളോടെ സംസാരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഗുജറാത്തി, ബംഗാളി, പഞ്ചാബി, നേപ്പാളി , ഉർദു മുതലായ ഭാഷകളോട് അടുത്ത ബന്ധം ഈ ഇന്തോ-യൂറോപ്യൻ ഭാഷക്കുണ്ട്. ദേവനാഗരി ലിപിയാണ് ഹിന്ദി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്. 2001-ലെ കാനേഷുമാരി പ്രകാരം ഭാരതത്തിൽ ഹിന്ദി മാതൃഭാഷയാണെന്നു പറഞ്ഞവരുടെ എണ്ണം 422,048,642 ആണ്‌ [7]. ഇതിനു പുറമെ നേപ്പാളിലും മറ്റു പല രാജ്യങ്ങളിലും ഹിന്ദി സംസാരിക്കുന്നവരുണ്ട് [8].
