ಜಾನ್ ಮಿಲ್ಟನ್
ಜಾನ್ ಮಿಲ್ಟನ್ (9 ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ 1608 – 8 ನವಂಬರ್ 1674) 17ನೆಯ ಶತಮಾನದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಕವಿ. ಮಿಲ್ಟನ್ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷಿನ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಮಹಾಕಾವ್ಯಗಳಾದ ಪ್ಯಾರಡೈಸ್ ಲಾಸ್ಟ್ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ಯಾರಡೈಸ್ ರೀಗೇನ್ಡ್ ಕೃತಿಗಳ ಕರ್ತೃ. ಇವಲ್ಲದೆ ಲಿಸಿಡಾಸ್, ಕೋಮಸ್ ಮುಂತಾದ ಕವನಗಳೂ ಸ್ಯಾಮ್ಸನ್ ಆಗೊನಿಸ್ಟಿಸ್ ಎಂಬ ನಾಟಕವೂ ಅವನವೇ. ಸಾನೆಟ್ ಜಾತಿಯ ಕವಿತೆಗಳಿಗೂ ಮಿಲ್ಟನ್ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಕಾವ್ಯದ ವಿಷಯ, ರೂಪ ಯಾವುದೇ ಆಗಿರಲಿ ಮಿಲ್ಟನ್ ತನ್ನ ಕೃತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಔನ್ನತ್ಯ, ಭವ್ಯತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮೂಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಅವನ ಹಾಗೆ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಸರಳ ರಗಳೆಯನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿರುವ ಕವಿ ಬೇರೆ ಯಾರೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಅವನ ಕೃತಿಗಳೆಲ್ಲ ಪ್ಯೂರಿಟನ್ ಪಂಥದ ಆದರ್ಶಗಳನ್ನೂ ರೀತಿನೀತಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುತ್ತವೆ.
