Onychoschizia
Onychoschizia is a splitting of the distal nail plate into layers at the free edge, a very common problem among women and represents a dyshesion of the layers of keratin, possible as a result of dehydration.[1]:786[2]It usually occurs in children less than 16 years of age. It also occurs in hooved animals such as horses[3] and responds favorably to treatment with vitamin B7, also known as biotin.
