History and profile

Founded in 1905,[1] Nursing Times is published on a monthly basis. It was one of 13 titles acquired from Ascential (formerly Emap) by Metropolis International in a £23.5m cash deal, announced on 1 June 2017.[2]

Nursing Times is the largest nursing website outside of the US.[3] The title provides both nursing news and clinical subject articles; it hosts an opinion section where nurses can debate current issues; features on nursing issues and clinical supplements.

The magazine's website www.nursingtimes.net hosts a range of material, including breaking news covering developments in clinical practice as well as professional issues; a sharing practice section highlighting best practice and innovation across the sector; career development information including careers clinics and in 2015, Nursing Times re-launched Nursing Times Learning.

Nursing Times Learning began as a source of high-quality, double-blind peer reviewed online learning for nurses, and now includes the Learning Passport, an e-portfolio that allows nurses and midwives to store their CPD achievements and other revalidation evidence. Nursing Times currently has 21 learning units on a range of subjects, with more currently being developed. Each unit takes around two hours to complete. When users successfully complete a unit a personalised certificate is stored in their Learning Passport.

The system also provides a manager dashboard which allows managers to track how staff are progressing in their preparation for revalidation. It can also show how many in the team have completed a specific learning unit.

Nursing Times also produces a range of conferences, in addition to the prestigious Nursing Times Awards and Student Nursing Times Awards, which is the only awards to solely recognise nurse education.

From July 2004 to July 2005 Nursing Times sold nearly 72,166 copies.[3] The magazine had a circulation of 30,923 copies in 2008.[3]
